Well it happened. We got to July, and I am officially behind on my reading.
The ELCA Youth Gathering was great, but it didn’t leave a lot of room for reading during the day.
I’m hearing from some of you that you are starting to fall behind too. I get it. Summers are busy. You are not alone in that.
And, it can be discouraging to fall behind. Maybe you are ready to just give up. I have some advice for you.
First, you started reading the whole Bible. Do you know how few people even attempt that?
Second, you made it pretty far. Maybe you got through Deuteronomy before the readings started piling up. That means you read the first five books of the Bible ALL THE WAY THROUGH. That is a HUGE accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself.
You could quit now, and no one but you would ever know. Trust me – I had this same thought this week.
But you didn’t start this for someone else. This is for you.
Maybe if it was just about doing something to make other people happy, it would make sense to just stop. But this is all about you – about growing in your faith and accomplishing something amazing.
Looking at all the verses, and chapters, and pages there are to catch up on can be daunting. So don’t do that.
Start with today’s reading. Pull out the B90 reading schedule, look up today’s date, and start there.
Don’t worry about catching up! Read today’s reading.
Read for your half an hour or forty-five minutes today. And then check today off the list. Stay in sync with the everyone else as we read. Then, if you have time, go back and read the things you missed.
The main thing is to keep reading. Keep moving forward. One day at a time.
You can do this. Don’t set your Bible down, don’t give up. Pick it up, and read today’s assigned reading. Then keep going. One day, one reading at a time.
