2022 Mission Spending Proposal

As we come to the end of 2021, the SOJOY Leadership Team has proposed the following Mission Spending Proposal (Budget).

2022 Mission Spending Proposal Summary

Summary

The last two years have been highly unusual.

Like every other church, business, and school, 2020 saw us move to online-only ministry in March. This was a huge impact and directly affected both the offerings we received and increased our expenses from our Preschool ministry.

In 2021, just as we were recovering from 2020, the Winter Storm caused a pipe to burst in our building. This kept us from being able to worship in-person for another 6 months.

We adapted well (see Pastor David’s full comments on 2021). But each of these crises lowered our income and increased our expenses for these two years.

Thanks be to God for the leaders who had set aside a prudent reserve – a rainy day fund … because it definitely rained.

Looking at the balance sheet of our accounts as of Oct 31 2021, you can see the loss of reserves in our primary balance, and where we still have funds if we need them.

Renovation Project

The renovation project is not yet complete, and so these numbers are not reflected in the 2021 income and expenses (we haven’t received the invoices yet for the majority of the work). Based on the hard work of the Design Team and the generosity of our members, we look to be breaking even on that project.

Other Generosity Notes

The SOJOY Leadership Team and staff have worked hard to be good stewards of all of your gifts!

The financial spreadsheets only reflect a fraction of the reality of the generous faith of this community.

Despite the financial hardships of this year, 750 people in our community who could not afford to do so on their own received a letter informing them that their medical debt had been forgiven thanks to your generosity.

During the unpredictability of 2020-2021, we were able to continue to pay all of our COJ teachers, and to keep the doors of this preschool ministry open to serve our community.

When they had nowhere else to gather in-person during the pandemic, we opened our doors to recovery groups who began to meet here 6 days a week – offering the alternative of recovery and sobriety to those who are battling with addiction and alcoholism.

Despite the pandemic, we responded generously to natural disasters both here in our community, and across the country.

Joyful people really do live generously!

What is a “Mission Spending Plan”??
Sometimes, we can get bogged down in the line items. But the line items are more than just that.

  • We don’t just have an electric bill. We have a preschool ministry, worship, recovery groups and more happen in the building when the lights are on and the AC is turned down.
  • We don’t just pay salaries. We pay salaries that allow us to have Bible Studies and resources to grow in faith
  • We don’t just have expenses for electronics. We have a high quality worship live stream that allows us to worship with people all around the world.

The language of Mission Spending reminds us that these funds aren’t just the bills we receive. They are the mission that we share in Jesus’ name.
