If you’ve landed here, you are thinking about coming to the sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time – either for yourself or for your children. We are excited that you are growing in discipleship!
Holy Communion is celebrated weekly at Spirit of Joy!, and it is an important part of our life together. We are both serious and joyful about the preparation for this sacrament (sacrament means an act or ritual that helps to connect us with God).
Our next Communion Preparation Class at Spirit of Joy! is scheduled for March 13, at 11:00am (immediately following worship).
Here are some questions you might have about Communion Preparation.
What age is appropriate for First Communion?
In the Lutheran tradition, we welcome all baptized Christians to the Lord’s Table. Baptism is the only pre-requisite to Holy Communion – A child can begin to receive Communion at any time after baptism. Ultimately, parents are a better judge of when children might be ready than some arbitrary age limit. You may notice that your child has begun to ask about what is going on during Communion, or asking to be included in the meal – when a child begins to express this sort of natural curiosity and excitement, it is often a good time to start Communion Preparation.
What age is the Communion Preparation Class for?
All ages! Whether you are 3 or 13 or 30 or 63, we can all learn more about the amazing gift that God offers to us in the sacrament of Holy Communion. Whether you are bringing your child, or would like to understand more about the mystery that is Communion, you are welcome to join us.
